Emantenating the zeitgeist

I defended my PhD in genetics in October 2004, married my sweetie zen_oven in May, honeymooned in St. Lucia, and am now actively looking for post-doctoral positions. I think my interest in both alternative medicine and genetics stems from my tendency toward noticing things that are odd or remarkable. I used to read a lot of science fiction and fantasy and watch similar movies, now I'm reading more nonfiction and watching dramas. Taking Latin in high school stimulated my interest in comparative study of religion and myth, archeology in the ancient world (Egypt and the Near East). My interest in my wife's participation in the SCA has pushed my interest in historical things. It's led to our touring of various presidential homes, reading about the lives of the early presidents and the age of sail, and visiting national parks. I spend a lot of time cooking, eating, and thinking about things food-related. I enjoy traveling and have a big list of places that I plan to visit. I'm trying to visit all places that I might want to live in the future. Outside the U.S., I've been to Britain, Italy, Greece, and Turkey.
